Stockton Inn

Hard to beat the pedigrees of the folks running the Stockton Inn restaurants. Managing Director Anthony Rudolf is formerly of the Thomas Keller Restaurant Group (Bouchon Bistro, French Laundry), Executive Chef Bob Truitt (formerly of Michael White and Stephen Starr) and Brian Miller, a pioneer of the modern cocktail movement with tenures at Death & Co. and Pegu Club.

Guests can dine in three different venues; the historic and intimate Tavern, the elegant main Dining Room or outside on the delightful Terrace. All three are beautifully decorated with the Tavern and Dining Room sporting fireplaces and the Terrace offering firepits.

By 18 Chef Truitt  was working alongside James Beard Award winning Chef Guillermo Pernot at Philly’s best new restaurant Pasíon. Followed by years at Morimoto Philly and Room for Dessert, Truitt, then 25, moved to Spain to join three-time Michelin starred chef and gastronomic icon Ferran Adriá at El Bulli. He went on to work at Michael White’s Marea and Ai Fiori, during which he was named a James Beard Semifinalist for Outstanding Pastry Chef.

The farm-to table menu is crafted using local produce, seafish and meats. Don’t start your experience without trying the Stockton Market Sourdough bread with cultured lavender honey butter, maldon sea salt. For appetizers we loved the Lump Crab Soldiers with potato rosi, preserved lemon aioli, dill and smoked trout roe and the Mafaldine alla Nerano (pasta) with summer squash, garlic, basil, parmigiano. For entrees we enjoyed the Poached Halibut with green and white asparagus, morels and vin jaune and the Bone-in Pork Chop with carrot-nduja puree, favas, ramps and mustard seed jus. For dessert we shared an amazing Sweet Corn Ice Cream with blueberry compote, caramel popcorn and peaches.

Great cocktail list. Reason alone to visit here. Excellent full bottle list, albeit a little pricey. till can find some values, though.Wine List is a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence winner. About 13 wines by the glass, reasonably priced. Another 5 premium wines by the glass of some wonderful selections.
