OVERVIEW of Village Inn at Woodstock
Woodstock Vermont is what everyone envisions a charming Vermont town to be. There’s a village green, a covered bridge, stately circa 1800 Colonial homes, a river running through the town, beautiful mountain views and nice, friendly people, all of whom to seem know each other. It is pure Norman Rockwell…a step back in time…that will make you long for a simpler era.
The Village Inn at Woodstock is a delightful Victorian B&B within walking distance to everything the town has to offer. I am reluctant to say “Victorian” because in many cases that connotes dark woods, heavy furniture and an almost forbidding presence. No so here. This is the finest example of Victorian décor we have seen. Traditional, yet…oh so elegant. Victorian furniture is covered in rich, colorful fabrics complemented with lavish draperies, gorgeous wall coverings and stunning artwork. Woodwork is intricately designed and highly polished and many of the fireplace mantels are Victorian antiques.
THE ROOMS at Village Inn at Woodstock
There are 7 rooms and one suite in the Inn. All rooms feature King or Queen beds, private baths, flat screen TV’s, Turkish cotton towels, luxury linens, complimentary wireless internet access and Poggesi of Italy bath products. Some have fireplaces, even actual wood burning ones (#3) and some have whirlpool tubs.
My room #5, had a sitting room with a fireplace, a two person whirlpool, a two headed marble shower , a canopy bed with butter soft linens and a gorgeous antique armoire. It could not have been more comfortable.
DINING at Village Inn at Woodstock
Breakfast is served in the dining room each day, beginning at 8:00am and the Inn makes great use of local Vermont farms and artisan food purveyors. We started with strawberries and Greek yogurt, then a delicious cranberry pound cake and freshly squeezed orange juice. You can opt for the daily special as I did, or they’ll make you Bear Knoll Farm eggs prepared to order, or Evelyn’s homemade granola. The special was a light and flavorful bacon quiche served with a side of Green Mountain Smokehouse bacon and a choice of three homemade breads, Oatmeal, Challah or Irish Farmhouse Wheat, baked fresh each day by innkeeper Evelyn. (the oatmeal was wonderful). Excellent coffee and a newspaper and I was ready for my day.
The Inn has a cozy pub, open only to guests where you can enjoy a glass of wine (first one’s complimentary!) or a cocktail and when the weather cooperates, outside on the porch or the garden terrace.
Enjoy at least one dinner at The Prince and the Pauper, a short walk from the Inn. Cozy, romantic, excellent food and a pretty good wine list. While you are in the area, don’t miss lunch or dinner at Simon Pearce, overlooking the falls.
