Provincetown or “P-Town” as it is affectionately called by locals and fans sits at the northern tip of Cape Cod, bordered on three sides by the Atlantic. Its history goes back nearly 400 years…this is where the Mayflower actually landed and the Mayflower Compact signed. Today, it is a thriving colony of artists and writers and maybe the world’s most popular gay and lesbian resort. There are about 3,000 year round residents and the population explodes to nearly 60,000 in the summer. While the gay population may dissuade some from visiting, they would be missing a lot. This is a delightful town with exceptional art galleries, wonderful restaurants and bars, amazing beaches, spectacular sunrises and sunsets….and maybe the world’s best people watching!
Crowne Pointe Inn is perched on a hill overlooking the town. The main building is a classic 140 year old restored sea captain’s house that serves as the anchor for a wonderful compound of five other restored historic buildings. In pristine condition, the Inn is just minutes from the center of town and the beaches, ideally located to everything. The fenced courtyard has meandering pathways bordered by colorful flowers and plants and there’s a hot tub, small pool and lots of tables and chairs to relax, enjoy a cocktail or read a book. If you are lucky you may even see the resident ghost, thought to be the original sea captain.
When super comfortable rooms, delicious food and wine and thoughtful service come together, it results in the “perfect storm” for the traveler, creating memories you won’t soon forget. Crowne Point is that “perfect storm.”

Rooms are bright and airy with soothing colors, ceiling fans, hardwood floors, antique
reproductions and comfortable chairs and reading lamps. Premium mattresses are draped in 450 thread count linens and down pillows and comforters. Many rooms have fireplaces, whirlpool tubs and private decks. All rooms are equipped with flat screen TV’s, DVD players and Keurig coffeemakers.
DINING at Crown Pointe Inn
The kitchen is helmed by Robbin Haas, named one of the “Top 10 chefs in America by Food and Wine Magazine. Whether it’s the scrumptious made-to-order breakfast, the homemade cookies in the lobby or an elegant meal at The Pointe, you are in for a culinary adventure. Stop at the cozy bar for a whimsical cocktail or glass of wine and then on to one of two dining rooms; the indoor dining room beside the fire or the glass enclosed porch with stunning views of town. The lobster and mussels are from local waters, so as fresh as they can be. I loved the bacon and deviled eggs to start and the pan roasted chicken breast and slow roasted thigh, served with green pea risotto, crispy spinach and mustard sauce as an entrée.
The wine list has some 125 wines and 4,000 bottles and an excellent by the glass selection. All the major regions are represented and pricing is very reasonable. Try the delicious Shea Pinot Noir from Oregon.
Two other great choices for dinner are Front Street for Italian and Ten Tables for New American.
THE SERVICE at the Crowne Pointe Inn
The staff is friendly and helpful. John (concierge extraordinaire!) took out a map when I checked in and circled everything in town I shouldn’t miss. Thoughtful touches abound. Guests enjoy a spa pass for use of the eucalyptus infused steam room, mineral soaking tub and sauna. Every afternoon there is a complimentary wine and cheese social on the patio or in the Club Room. There are home baked cookies and treats in the lobby every afternoon, complimentary WIFI throughout, morning newspapers and beach towels are provided.
