Bucks County Cottage on the Delaware

OVERVIEW of Bucks County Cottage

On a recent overnight to the New Hope/Lambertville area we enjoyed a wonderful alternative to traditional inns and B&B’s, an absolutely charming little private cottage set on the banks of the Delaware River about 13 miles south of New Hope/Lambertville. It was so cozy and comfortable, we had to think twice about going out to dinner. Set on a couple of wooded acres with tall trees, gardens and great views of the River, this delightful cottage is the perfect getaway for a couple or even a family of four.

THE ROOMS at Bucks County Cottage

As a house, the cottage is small at about 700 square feet, but compared to a normal size room in an inn or B&B, it’s huge, with plenty of space. The decor is colonial Williamsburg, furnished with 18th century reproductions, polished pine plank floors covered with colorful Oriental area rugs. Light colored walls are offset with dark hunter green crown moldings and chair rails. Outside the small but well equipped kitchen is the “tavern room” which has a single bed and pop-up trundle bed, a place to set up your laptop (free wireless) and contains all the area guides, lists and brochures you’ll need to explore the area. You’ll also find books, movies, and games here.

Down the hall is a good size bathroom that leads into the bedroom. Wonderfully thick and soft towels, terry robes, fragrant Yardley of London soaps and great shower pressure make this a terrific place to start or end your day. The bedroom has a queen size 4 poster bed with a canopy and luxury linens and dark wooden blinds keep out the morning light.

DINING at Bucks County Cottage

We woke to a rainy, dreary day, but delicious granola, hot coffee and a roaring morning fire made it bearable. We had a marvelous time here and can’t wait to go back.

THE SERVICE at Bucks County Cottage

The attention to detail…to anticipating guests needs is remarkable, something we usually find only in 5 star properties. It runs the gamut from things you’ll want (travel guides like Frommer’s and Zagat, lists of restaurants and farmer’s markets and activity brochures) to things you may need (umbrella, fly swatter, extra toiletry items) to nice touches (croissants, coffee, milk and fresh OJ for breakfast, cheese sticks to enjoy with wine and a delicious orange peel chocolate for a late snack). Firewood is stacked and ready to light in the fireplace and there are fresh flowers in most rooms. The kitchen table was set for morning breakfast with fresh flowers and a welcoming note. Wherever Emily or Alfred thinks you may not understand how to operate something, you’ll see a little note explaining it. I can’t think of anything they missed.
