Hotel Viking

OVERVIEW of The Hotel Viking

The Hotel Viking opened to rave reviews in May of 1926 and quickly became a favorite of famous dignitaries and celebrities. Today, it is a member of the prestigious Historic Hotels of America. A $6.2 million restoration maintained the hotel’s historical character while installing the latest comfort and technological amenities. Centrally located in town, the hotel is just a few blocks from Thames St.

2025/2026 saw another major renovation particularly in its dining options. It is slated to re-open in May 1026

THE ROOMS at The Hotel Viking

Rooms feature beautiful period-inspired furniture and the décor of Newport’s Gilded Age. Accommodations include pillow-top mattresses, Egyptian cotton bed linens, LCD televisions and beveled glass doors leading into bathrooms with ‘pillow’ carved marble showers. I particularly like the Estate Fireside Rooms which feature an electric fireplace.

DINING at The Hotel Viking

New dining options include Pescadou, a French Riviera-inspired seafood restaurant; Cap Club, a tropical rooftop bar; Skoal Room, a classic cocktail bar; and Tuck Shop, a preppy café in the lobby. These are expected to open in May 2026.
