Hamilton Turner Inn

OVERVIEW of the Hamilton Turner Inn

The circa 1873 Hamilton-Turner Inn is a charming Victorian mansion located on the beautiful Lafayette Square. Surrounded by lush greenery and gardens, the Inn has some great architectural features like 13 foot ceilings, 12 foot. windows, delightful balconies and some rooms with private entrances. There are 18 individually decorated rooms and suites furnished with Empire, Eastlake and Renaissance Revival period antiques.

The main parlor with couches surrounding a working fireplace is the scene for complimentary afternoon wine and hors d’ouvres, prepared by Anna and Ben. They are quite delicious. I love this Southern tradition and on my last visit made some new friends during the cocktail hour.

THE ROOMS at the Hamilton Turner Inn

The rooms themselves are very interesting. My room, Isaiah Davenport, was very small but it was so charming that I quickly forgot about the lack of space. It had a private entrance with a gated outer door, exposed brick walls, a very comfortable queen bed and a delightful claw-foot tub in the bathroom. At night the gas lights were visible on the square across the street.

I also liked the Noble Jones room with its large windows, fireplace and double sinks and the Flannery O’Connor room with French doors opening onto the garden.

DINING at the Hamilton Turner Inn

A full breakfast is served each morning and you should ask for Anna’s delicious Praline French Toast the night before.
