OVERVIEW of Hawk’s Cay
Hawk’s Cay is a 60 acre AAA Four Diamond resort, located on the island of Duck Key about halfway down the Florida Keys. It offers one of the best values we have seen for family vacations. Amenities abound….there’s lots to do for adults and children alike and the price is unbelievable. Imagine rooms starting at $239 on a January weekend….where’s the plane?
The resort has a wonderful saltwater lagoon and 5 pools, one of which is adults only; hard surface and clay tennis courts; offshore, reefs, flats and backcountry fishing; scuba, snorkel and SNUBA diving; boat and kayak rentals; kite and paddle boarding; a fitness center and the full service Calm Waters Spa., Named 2009’s #1 spa in all of the U.S. and Canada in Travel + Leisure’s 2009 “World’s Best Awards,”
There are excellent children’s programs, broken into age groups of “Kids 5-12”, “Tweens” 9-12 and “Teens” 12-17. all supervised by a staff of licensed professionals. Hawk’s Cay was voted one of the “Best Hotel Kids’ Programs” by Travel & Leisure Magazine. The kids will love the Pirate Ship Pool and The Indies Club.
Hawks Cay Resort is the only hotel or resort in the continental United States that features an on-site dolphin research facility. The Dolphin Connection program is an amazing experience for your children and one they won’t soon forget. Worth the visit alone.
THE ROOMS at Hawk’s Cay
There are 177 guestrooms and suites in the main building and the resort offers a number of villa options, spread throughout the Key. Larger families or those preferring to stay in and cook once in a while will opt for a villa. For smaller families or couples, I particularly like the Premier Lanai guestrooms which have their own private sundeck and porch.
Rooms and marble baths are spacious and decorated in a breezy West Indies island motif in soft shades of yellow with rattan style furniture, ceiling fans and olive fern patterned draperies. Luxury linens cover Serta Perfect Sleeper beds with feather pillows, there’s a 37 inch LCD TV, Internet access and a Bose Sound System.

Dockside Angler & Ale is a casual restaurant who will cook your day’s catch and Oasis Cay is a poolside, adults only restaurant. Tiki Grill is a lagoon side Tiki Bar and grill.
THE SERVICE at Hawk’s Cay
The staff is pleasant and efficient. Rooms and property are immaculately maintained. Our visit happened to be over Super Bowl Sunday and the resort offered a package of drinks and a buffet for a very modest price at Tom’s. It was great and fun and demonstrated a customer service mindset that makes this a special place.

WHAT OTHERS SAY About Hawk’s Cay
AAA Four Diamond Award
There’s “a lot for everyone to do” at this “highly recommended” 40 acre Duck Key “resort for families”, where a ‘wonderful” $30 million renovation to the rooms, suites and one-to-four bedroom villas (beds make you feel like “you’re sleeping on a cloud”), the addition of Nueva Latina restaurant, Alma, and a “relaxing” new lobby rum bar brings everything up a notch; from “feeding and swimming with the resident dolphins” (“a big hit”( to diving, fishing and partaking in a “great children’s program”, it’s a “dream vacation” for most.
