Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina

OVERVIEW of Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina

A few years back, new owners George Filopoulos and Lloyd Goldman  transformed the once stodgy old Gurney’s Montauk resort into the new hot spot at the East End of Long Island. Now they have worked their magic again, this time in Newport, RI to the former Hyatt Hotel on Goat Island.

Where Montauk offers spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Gurney’s Newport Resort and Marina is surrounded by Narragansett Bay affording stunning 360 degree water views.

New owners have renovated the property, painting, upgrading the lobby area, refurbishing the rooms, adding a new restaurant, Scarpetta and a new spa, Stillwater Spa. They have created a two tier outside deck that features cozy sitting nooks with lounge furniture and fire pits.

THE ROOMS at Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina

There are 257 rooms, nearly all with water views. A blue and gray color palette draw from the waters around the resort and amenities include luxury linens, pillow top beds, 47″ TV’s, a separate work area, a sitting area, complimentary WiFi, a spacious bath with granite counter tops, a glass shower and Gilchrist & Soames bath products. Rooms are equipped with a special plastic bag for guests to take their phone, sunglasses etc to the pool.

The outside is what sets this delightful resort apart from anything else in Newport. Two outside bars, a salt water pool, the two tiered deck with fire pits and Adirondack chairs set along the banks of the Bay, allow guests to savor the amazing views of the water, lighthouse and bridge.
