Sardella’s is local’s favorite, created some years back by a former mayor of the town. Residents can be found at the bar pontificating on the state of affairs in Newport. It’s lively and fun….and
the food is really good. This is Newport’s “Cheers”
This is a warm and romantic place, serving basic, but very good Northern and Southern Italian food. I like to start with the Panzanella Salad, romaine lettuce tossed with vinaigrette soaked bread cubes, fresh mozzarella and garden tomato. Or, the pasta Bolognese, A sauce made of ground beef, pork, garlic, plum tomatoes, fresh herbs, over linguine. My favorite entree is the Barolo Short Ribs, slow roasted in Barolo wine and served over mashed potatoes. Love their chocolate chip cannolis for dessert
The wine list, while not particularly creative, is adequate with some good choices and is very reasonably priced. Love that they have Orvieto, Gavi and Soave whites. House brand reds are actually pretty good.
If you want some local color, ask for a front booth in the bar. In colder weather, I like the Tuscan Room or the side porch room with its candlelit tables. When it’s warm, the garden patio is delightful.
ROMANTIC QUOTIENT: Medium to High.
