Mandarin Oriental, Miami FL

OVERVIEW of Mandarin Oriental

One of the things that make Mandarin special is their ability to find locations that afford a spectacular view. New York has Central Park and the river, Washington DC has the Jefferson Memorial, La Vegas has the Strip and Miami has water views from nearly every room. Set on Brickell Key, MO manages both a private island setting and access to downtown Miami, just steps away.

Sunrises and sunsets make this a truly magnificent setting and ideal for starting the day or ending it with cocktails.

THE ROOMS at Mandarin Oriental

The 295 elegant guestrooms and suites have floor to ceiling windows and are decorated in neutral tones with splashes of color from artwork and furnishings. Beds are dressed in luxury linens and goose down duvets. Marble baths feature a separate tub, a glassed walk-in shower and Shanghai Tang amenities.

DINING at Mandarin Oriental

The hotel’s restaurant, La Mar by Gaston Acurio, features an amazing Peruvian menu. This was my first venture into Peruvian food and it was a revelation. I started with Anticuchos, traditional peruvian skewers from the anticucho grill, in this case free range chicken, potatoes, choclo, chalaca and ocopa sauce. My entree was Churrasco a lo Pobre; ribeye angus beef, chimichurri, beans and rice tacu-tacu, egg, criolla, chorrillana sauce and fried banana. Paired with a Peruvian Sauvignon Blanc, the meal was rich and flavorful with hints of delicious spices and sweet and savory overtones. Dessert was an unforgettable La Guanabana Esfera; purple corn sorbet, meringue, yogurt, peruvian corn, mote, guanábana cream and chinese cinammon.

YAKU by La Mar is a chic outdoor bar and lounge from award-winning restaurant La Mar by Gaston Acurio. Serving a selection of Peruvian-inspired punch cocktails, beers and wines alongside delicious small plates such as Cebiche Tostado (with tuna tartare, chipotle aioli, avocado and onion) and Los Choritos (mussels with caucau flavours), YAKU is the place to be Thursday – Saturday night

Rounding out the dining options MO Bar offers cocktails and casual food in the lobby and the Oasis Pool Cafe serves lunch by the pool.

THE SPA at Mandarin Oriental

Soak up the sun at the gorgeous 20,000 square-foot private white sand beach overlooking Biscayne Bay or next to the infinity edge pool and treat yourself to a spa treatment at the tranquil and serene Spa. Mandarin Oriental spas are among the most acclaimed in the world and Miami is no exception having earned Forbes highest Five Star rating.

THE SERVICE at Mandarin Oriental

As expected at a MO hotel, the service is exceptional without being overbearing. The staff is friendly and helpful and quick with somehow remember your name after only one meeting. One example tells it all, I arrived at the hotel before my room was ready and they gave me a locker in the Spa, so that I could change and enjoy the pool while waiting.

If you are looking for a break from northern climes, MO will sooth your soul and revitalize your senses….don’t miss it.
